Thanks to Shirley Dyer for planning tonight’s dinner location. They had a nice big semi-separate room we used, the food was yummy and the service was excellent. Then there’s the dessert – all are to die for, but cheesecake is their specialty!   If you are downtown in Augusta, don’t miss this gem.

Treasurer’s Report: Started at $1436.87, added $10 in dues payments from our new member Steve Zwemer, and $20 in pin sales. Balance = $1466.87.

Communigraphics in North Augusta has our logo, for $8 you can have it embroidered on just about anything.

Club Business:
• As mentioned above, the new “inside the glass” cling club stickers are now available, one per car is free, so those of you that didn’t attend last month or tonight’s meeting be sure to get yours soon.
• We added one new member – Steve Zwemer, welcome to the club Steve! Please visit the website for exciting new events. 😉
• Pat Tarrant won the “Baby Miata” matchbox car in the special giveaway at tonight’s dinner (sponsored by Mike & Shirley)
• Rudy and Patty have reserved the Clubhouse at Brookstone for the Christmas Party on December 9th. The Rental charge is $50 and meat (Ham & Turkey) will be purchased by the club. A pot luck style dinner is planned. Karol is looking at Honey Baked Ham and a few other places for the meats; she circulated sign-up sheets for other dishes and will post it on the website. We think ‘Bring Your Own’ (for alcohol) is the best way to go, but Shirley & Karol may spike the punch – so be warned! More planning to come…..
• Also, planning has not yet begun for the Club 25th Anniversary Celebration scheduled for February 3rd but a few ideas have begun percolating.

Club Business:

  • Shirley did the paperwork for and received a Zoom-Zoom box. So she and Mike divided up the “loot” and handed out some and had a raffle for some additional swag.
  • David Brock handed out instructions for the “Road Rally” and briefed everyone on his proposals. The members present decided a Saturday is better for this Rally/Scavenger Hunt. We decided the 3rd Saturday in July would be best since we were not going to have a July Dinner meeting. So July 15th it is! Meet at Greg’s Gas plus at Exit 1 in SC, first car out at 9:30, cars will go out at 3 minute intervals. If you want breakfast first, meet at Waffle House at 8am on the other side of the exit. Respond on this website if you plan on going.
  • Rudy and Patty talked to management in their Subdivision about renting the Clubhouse for the Christmas Party and will try to reserve the 2nd Saturday in December (9th) for the Christmas Party. The Rental charge is $50 and we discussed the club buying the meat (Ham & Turkey), and doing a pot luck style dinner. More planning to come…..

Alternative Plan for Zooming Weekend

Here is my alternative plan to doing the Zooming event on June 1 thru 3. As much as I would like to do the Bristol Motors event again, I could not justify spending 2 nights in a motel for a one day event in Johnson City (area), and then spending 2 nights in a motel for a one day event in Petersburg, VA. So this is what I plan to do. If any would like to caravan with me just let me know. Since at this point I am going alone, my plans are loose, but if others are going to join in, then we need to firm things up a bit.

Rather than go north on Wednesday, which would be necessary to be fully involved in the Thursday event at Johnson City, wait until Thursday to leave. Check weather in the morning to verify good visibility and high ceilings in the mountains. If okay, leave around 9:00 am and drive north on 19 and 25 to intersect the Blue Ridge Parkway. Spend the remaining day driving the Parkway to Roanoke, VA. Spend the night in Roanoke, lodgings not yet determined. Leave on Friday morning for Petersburg. Spend Friday night and Saturday night in Petersburg. Attend the Moss Motofest on Saturday. Have verified that there is no need to register or pay for attending this event provided you are not showing a vehicle. Drive home Sunday. About a 400+ mile drive but almost all freeway.

If the weather does not cooperate, hold off on leaving for Petersburg until Friday and not attempt the mountains. Still considering alternate plan to the alternate plan if the weather is not super for a mountain drive.

So, if anyone is interested, let me know.

May Dinner Meeting Minutes

When: May 4th, 2017

Where: Mi Rancho, Downtown Augusta

Who: Don and Kay Boltz, Mike and Shirley Dyer, Larry and Rita Garner, Dennis and Karol Mason, Daryl Shipman and Sherry Moore, Stacey and Cindy Timmerman, Tom Varallo, and Ralf and Annie Wilms.

Thanks to Dennis Mason for planning tonights Dinner Meeting. Mi Rancho was the perfect location for a Cinco de Mayo (okay Quattro de Mayo) dinner meeting (since no Star Wars themed restaurant was available – May the fourth be with you!) The food was good and so was the service once they got all the orders correct.

Treasurer’s Report: Started at $1540.74, added $20 in dues, and $60 in MMC pin purchases (Shirley & Mike purchased to give to Blueridge Miata Club members). End balance=$1620.74 Not deducted yet is a check for Ms. Wylds’ flowers that Mike has (and planned to send on Friday the 5th) to John Haff.
• We are down to about 10 pins left, so a motion was made, and approved to spend about $300 to buy more pins.
• Static Cling stickers are being made and $200 was approved to purchase them.
• Sherry Shipman told us that Ms. Anita Wylds, who is a Master’s Miata founding member, is still in serious condition and was released from the burn unit at Doctors Hospital. She went back in for surgery this week as they try to save her right arm. I understand they have attached her arm to her torso to try to get some good circulation going. Thanks to John Haff for ordering the flowers. She sent such a nice thank you e-mail.

Ongoing:
• Tom has some business cards with the club website; to give to people who own Miata’s that may be interested in joining. See Tom if you would like some.
• See Dennis for name-tags…..
• Club merchandise available: Pins are $3 each; “Support Vehicle” car magnets $25 per pair, canvas tote/shopping bag $20 each. The 3” window stickers are available, these are the ones that go on the outside. The cling ones being made are for the inside of the glass.
Coffee mugs and other items are available from http://www.cafepress.com/masters_miata
Communigraphics in North Augusta has our logo, for $8 you can have it embroidered on just about anything.

Club Business:
• Six cars (Brian & Donna Bogardus, Dennis & Karol Mason, Hal & Trudy Scott, Daryl Shipman, Stacey Timmerman, and Tom Varallo) showed up to do Parade Laps at Carolina Motor Sports on 6 May, hosted by John Haff. It was a wonderful time! We did about 5 laps this time. We were told last year they went faster, but we were escorted this year by reps from the track, not John. 😉
• Shirley told us about the trip she and Mike took with the Blueridge Miata Club to the outer banks of N. Carolina and Virginia. They were gone a week and stayed in a different hotel each night, it was a bit hectic but they traveled some beautiful country and roads. They recommend the trip to anyone. But as you can imagine there is a lot of planning to be done. The Blueridge Miata Club only meets a couple times a year and they do a big trip like this. Next year they are planning a trip through the Smokey Mountains. Shirley says they all loved the Masters Miata Club pins she took and gave to them.
• Shirley also said Blueridge Miata’s told her about a Zoom-Zoom box that we can request, but need to do some paperwork and request it for an event (that will likely have wide exposure). Shirley asked if we wanted to apply and said she would do the paperwork, but asked what event we wanted to request it for. The members present suggested the Ridge Peach Parade.
• There was discussion about a “Back of the Dragon” trip being planned October 19-21st. But I didn’t write down who is planning it (Someone please remind me?!)

8mm Projector

Dennis is looking for a 8mm or Super 8 mm projector to view some of his parents old home movies. He would like to borrow it only long enough to determine if the films are in decent condition and worth converting to digital.

If anyone has one we could borrow we promise to take good care of it and will get it back to you quickly!

Please contact Dennis at

Thank you!!
